What Mathiter covers, track by track
Nineteen tracks. 1,228 teachable standards. 665 English lectures written so far. The lecture count sits inside the table next to the standard count, because that pair of numbers is what tells you whether a track is usable this term or only mapped.
Written to be forwarded. If a teacher in your department sent you this and you are the one who has to judge it, everything you need is on this page: the counts, the rule I counted by, the four rows that are thin, and what is not built at all.
If your department is under contract with IXL for another year, this page is not asking you to give anything up. Keep it. The ask is one class, one term, free, running alongside what you already have. The reason to do it this term is that your renewal is the meeting where your own numbers would actually count for something, and you cannot bring numbers you never collected.
How I counted
A coverage number means nothing until you know what was counted. Here is the rule, before the table rather than after it.
- 1Teachable standards means leaf nodes in the curriculum files — the level you would actually put on an assignment. Domain-level header codes are not counted. Counting them would add a few hundred rows to the total and teach nobody.
- 2English lectures means English lecture scripts that exist for that track today. Not planned, not in a queue, not a Korean lecture with English subtitles on the way. Draft stubs are excluded: there are four placeholder files in the Grade 8 folder with no content in them, and they are not in this count.
- 3Where a track shows the same number in both columns, there is one lecture for every standard in it. Where it does not, the gap is the honest size of the gap.

The coverage matrix
Nineteen tracks in four groups. AP and the US tests first, because that is what most of the departments I talk to are actually deciding about. The last row of the table is the weakest thing on the shelf and it is a zero.

Score prediction has exam profiles configured for the Digital SAT, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge A-Level 9709 and Cambridge Further Mathematics 9231 — but only the Digital SAT actually returns a score today; the scoring model behind the others has not shipped, so they return nothing. That is what the Configured cells in this column mean, and it is why the column is not a tick. The 9231 row carries a profile despite having no lectures, because prediction runs off twenty answered problems and does not depend on lessons existing. Not configured at all for AP Precalculus, AP Statistics, the ACT, the AERO spine or IB.
One full exam simulation has been released and it is the Digital SAT: two adaptive modules, 44 questions, 70 minutes, Desmos embedded in the window, an official-style reference sheet, an option eliminator, a scratchpad, a flag grid and the break. The report gives a scaled score, a percentile, a domain breakdown and an analysis of the traps that cost the marks. There is no AP paper your students can sit — a simulation for AP Calculus AB and BC is built and has not been released. It is not in the table because you cannot use it, and I am not going to give you a date for it.
Placement is deliberately not a column. It is free forever, for any number of students, with no cap and nothing to buy, so a per-row tick would only tell you what the row above already says.
Where the shelf is thin
Every US row is full depth today — Grade 5 through Algebra 2, the four APs, the Digital SAT and the ACT: 558 standards, 558 English lectures, one for every standard. If you want a full-depth pilot this term, any of those rows will do it, and the one to pick is the course where you have the least help.
Deep today
AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Precalculus, AP Statistics, the Digital SAT, the ACT, and the AERO spine from Grade 5 through Algebra 2. Thirteen tracks, 558 standards, 558 English lectures. One lecture for every standard, on every row, with no exceptions.
Mapped and working, early on lessons
IB Analysis & Approaches, IB Applications & Interpretation, Cambridge IGCSE 0580, Cambridge A-Level 9709 and the UK National Curriculum. 581 standards between them and 107 lectures. The standards are mapped and the practice loop and the reporting run against them — but the teacher assignment builder only reaches the US tree today, so you cannot set homework against an IB or Cambridge code yet, and the written lessons are the other part that is missing. Pilot the diagnostic and the practice on these, not the lessons.
Mapped, nothing written
Cambridge Further Mathematics 9231. 89 standards, zero lectures. It is on the shelf because the map is finished and nothing else is. It is not a track I would let you pilot, and I would rather say that here than have you find it in week two.
Pilot schools set the queue
What gets written next is decided by the departments actually running classes on it. If you pilot one class this term and tell me which standards you want first, those are the ones I write. I would rather build against a real timetable than against a guess about which syllabus matters.
What one standard actually gets you
A coverage count is only worth what sits underneath it. Per standard, this is what there is.
Questions whose wrong answers were written on purpose
Every wrong option carries a named misconception, the student reasoning that produces it, a trap type, a severity, and an ordered chain of Socratic steps with a hint at each step. The correct answer is never revealed during the chain. All of it is authored in advance and stored — there is no model call on that path — so the same student on the same wrong option gets the same teaching every time, and so do you when you read it back.
A lecture, in English, with the words explained
On the deep tracks, one lecture per standard. A student can put the interface into Korean, Japanese, Chinese or Malay without moving the mathematics out of English, and tap any term in a lesson for its pronunciation, its everyday meaning and its meaning in mathematics — which is usually not the same thing. That last lookup covers Korean, Japanese and Chinese today. Malay gets the interface, not the glossary.
A live question count, before you assign rather than after
You build an assignment by ticking standards in the tree, and each one shows how many questions are actually behind it as you tick. You find out a standard is thin before your class does. Hand-pick the questions, or let it distribute by each student's measured ability and check the per-student Easy / Medium / Hard preview by name before you commit. There is also a panel showing the topics the class has been weak on over the last thirty days.
A mark that comes back as a diagnosis
Auto-grading names the misconception behind the exact option the student chose. Across the class you get accuracy per question, so the item everyone missed is the first thing on the screen. Per student you get ability over time, a topic radar, and recurring misconceptions with how often each one has come back.
Nothing to install
It is a web app that installs to a home screen if a student wants it there. Any browser, school iPad, Chromebook, phone. No lab booking, no IT deployment, no domain configuration.
The screen you would do that on is in Korean
I would rather you heard this from me than found it in the first week. The teacher console, the assignment builder, the live classroom, the parent view and the student assignment screens are all in Korean today. An English build is in progress. I do not have a date for it and I am not going to invent one.
What is in English today is the rest of the student side: the lectures, the practice, the Socratic dialogue when a question goes wrong, and the Digital SAT simulation. What is honest to say about the console is that it was built for a tutoring practice and is being rewritten for schools, and that this term you would be driving it through an interface you probably cannot read. What I can give you for that is written English setup notes covering the small number of screens a pilot actually needs — add students, build one assignment, read the results — rather than a translation date I can't hold.
If that is a hard no for your department, it is a hard no. I would rather lose the pilot than the second conversation.
The student who arrives in November
A student turning up mid-year from an IGCSE school has a transcript that means very little against your sequence, and no one has time to sit her down with a past paper. This is the part of Mathiter I would use first, and it is the part that is free.
- 1Two-parameter IRT. Items are chosen by maximum information; ability is estimated by EAP over 61 quadrature points.
- 2Between 5 and 30 items. It stops when the standard error reaches 0.35 or 0.45, not after a fixed count, so a clear student finishes quickly and an unclear one gets asked more.
- 3It reports an ability estimate with a confidence range and a percentile.
- 4Item parameters are recalibrated from real student responses once enough have accumulated on an item. The calibration pool is global rather than per-school, so this is an instrument that gets sharper over time, not one that tunes itself to your cohort.
- 5Free forever. Unlimited students. No card, no cap, no licence to buy first. You can place her on her first afternoon.
This is also the honest role of Cambridge on this page. I am not asking a US-curriculum department to teach 0580 out of Mathiter. I am saying I can place the student who arrives from a school that did.
If your department is already on IXL
Most of the departments I talk to are, and most are mid-contract. Nothing on this page asks you to give anything up. Run one class on Mathiter alongside what you have. It is additive, it is free, and your renewal is the meeting where evidence you gathered yourself is worth more than a demo.
What IXL has that I do not
8,500-plus skills across maths, English language arts, science, social studies and Spanish, pre-K through Calculus. Mathiter is mathematics only, Grade 5 upward, nineteen tracks. IXL also gives you free unlimited teacher accounts, its diagnostic inside the licence, real class and section objects, rostering through Clever, ClassLink, Google Classroom and Canvas, teacher-authored items and quizzes since August 2025, an English teacher interface, ESSA Strong evidence and 17 million students. That is a strong product and I am not going to pretend otherwise on my own coverage page.
The one curriculum row where I would say the difference is real
The Digital SAT. IXL's StudyWise takes a prior score and returns a list of ordinary IXL skills to work through. Mathiter runs the actual test: two adaptive modules, 44 questions, 70 minutes, Desmos in the window, the reference sheet, the option eliminator, the break — and a report with a scaled score, a percentile, a domain breakdown and the traps that cost the marks. That is a difference you can check in one afternoon with one student.
On AP and IB, do not take my word for it
I am not going to characterise what IXL has for AP or IB, because I do not have a document from them that says it and I am not guessing about someone else's product in public. Ask them directly, and ask to be shown an actual item rather than a skill plan. Then do exactly the same to me — the numbers in the table above are the ones I will be held to.
What is not on the list
Nineteen tracks is all of it. These are the things departments ask me for that are not there, and it is a shorter conversation if you find your dealbreaker now.
- Anything below Grade 5. The spine starts at Grade 5 and there is nothing under it.
- Any Grade 12 course other than the AP ones and the tests. There is no non-AP Grade 12 track.
- IB MYP, and Cambridge Lower Secondary. Neither is mapped.
- Competition mathematics.
- Any subject that is not mathematics. No science, no English, no languages.
- Your own questions. You choose from the bank or tick standards in the tree; there is no item editor, so you cannot attach a question you wrote to a standard. IXL has had that since August 2025 and I do not.
- Printables. No PDF export, no printable standards checklist, no worksheet. It is a screen product.
- Classes and sections. A student belongs to one teacher — there is no class, section or period object and no department-wide view, so five sections is a single long list of individual students. No roster import and no domain SSO either: no Clever, ClassLink, OneRoster, LTI or Google Classroom. Google sign-in works for an individual student; nothing above that does. For a class-sized pilot that is one email address at a time, with written setup notes for it.
- Independent evidence. No efficacy study, no published school reference, no SOC 2, no ISO 27001, no ESSA rating. IXL has ESSA Strong Tier 1 and I have nothing comparable to put beside it.
The questions a head of department asks first
Do you cover AP?+
AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Precalculus and AP Statistics. 204 standards between them and 204 English lectures — one for every standard. Score prediction is configured for AB and BC only. There is no AP paper your students can sit; a simulation for AB and BC is built and has not shipped, and I will not give you a date for it.
Do you cover IB?+
Analysis & Approaches and Applications & Interpretation are mapped as separate trees, 114 and 119 standards. The lessons behind them are early: 22 and 30. Score prediction is not configured for IB and there is no IB paper simulation. If your Grade 11 and 12 are DP, the honest pilot is the placement test and the practice loop, not the lessons — and I would say the same thing to your face in the meeting.
We are on IXL until next year. Is there any point starting now?+
That is the reason to start now rather than the reason not to. One class this term, free, alongside what you already run, gets you your own numbers from your own students by the time renewal comes round. Nothing about it needs a purchase order, a budget line or a procurement process, and there is nothing to cancel at the end.
Which tracks would you actually pilot?+
Analysis & Approaches and Applications & Interpretation are complete trees under IB's own codes, 114 and 119 standards. Two limits before you plan anything on them: the teacher assignment builder only reaches the US tree today, so you cannot yet set homework against an IB code, and score prediction is not configured for IB. Can we add our own questions to a standard?+
No. There is no item editor. You pick from the bank or tick standards in the tree and let it build the assignment. If teacher-authored items are a requirement for your department, that is a real gap and IXL covers it.
What does a school licence cost?+
It is not published. Email me and the number is in the first reply, not the third. The pilot is free either way, and it does not convert into anything automatically.
Will you sign our data processing agreement?+
Yes, on request. It has to disclose Google Gemini as a sub-processor, and for two paths rather than one: learning data analysed into a profile and a Digital SAT projection, and the AI Tutor, where a student sends a typed question, an image or a PDF of their own choosing. The Socratic teaching is neither — it is written in advance and served from the database. Data export is supported on request, and hosting is Google Cloud, Seoul region (asia-northeast3). Two things before your DPO asks: there is no age field and no consent gate at registration, so guardian consent is not something the product collects; and the AI Tutor has no off switch, per school or per student. Both are answered in full on the data page.

Pick a class on any US row — they are all one lecture per standard. Keep everything you already run. You get written setup notes in English: how to add the class, how to run the free placement test on all of them, and how to build your first assignment against the standards you are teaching this term. At the end the numbers are on your own screen — ability estimates, submission rate, and the misconceptions that came back most across the class — so it is your write-up rather than my marketing. I answer questions on any of it within a working day. Whatever you decide, those numbers are yours and you take them into your renewal.
